Eastern star sedge grows in rich, deciduous forests on upland, loamy soil. It forms attractive, low, compact clumps composed of lax, narrow leaves. Fruiting heads are small, star-shaped clusters along slender erect stems. Very pretty, and it does well in deep shade.
